Giveaway: Win a Self-Guided City Walks App!

Unfortunately this offer has now expired. Subscribe and be the first to know about future giveaways!

To celebrate two years of travel blogging, Lost in the Lens has teamed up with GPSmyCity to offer you the chance to win a free download of a handy travel app.

One of my favourite ways to explore new places is on foot because you never know what you might find at the end of a side street or inside the back of a shop. And now you can find these hidden gems  with GPSmyCity’s City Walks app.

City Walks features a selection of self-guided walking tours in one of 470 cities worldwide. Just choose a city app, select a tour and follow the detailed route maps to discover world famous landmarks or go off the beaten path.

You’ll save money on expensive guided tours, and be able to travel at your own pace. The best part? You can use the app offline! No roaming or data plans are needed – a must-have for every traveller.

The app can be used on both iOS (iPhone and iPad) and Android. For a full list of cities available on iOS, click here. For Android, click here.

We have 20 promotional codes, worth $4.99 each, to give away.  Each promo code gives you access to the full version of a City Walks app for the city of your choice. To stand a chance to win, tell us which city you want to tour and why in the comments section below. Please indicate whether you use an iOS or Android device.

Terms & conditions

  • The giveaway is open worldwide and ends midnight (00:00 JST) on March 29, 2016.
  • Entries should be submitted in English.
  • Winners will be selected randomly and receive their promo codes via email once the competition has ended.
  • Each promo code is tied to a certain city and, once issued, is valid for 28 days, after which it expires. The application itself, once downloaded, remains valid forever.

I think Tokyo is one of those cities that you could spend your whole life in and still find something new everyday. An app like this could be really helpful for finding hidden gems I might walk right past otherwise. With at least one trip to Tokyo coming up soon on the radar I’d love a chance to try out the app and see where it takes me! [on iOS]

I’m going to New York on my own for the first time in April, and I’d love to try out City Walks on my Android! I usually depend on Google Maps and printed city guides, but these are not always reliable nor up to date.

I will be on foot most of the time and might not have continuous access to Internet, so the offline capability would be perfect for me 🙂

And, since I’ll also be exploring Dallas & Raleigh in the same month, this app would definitely come in handy more than once!

I am going to my long dued Thailand trip and would love to have this app when I travel within Bangkok and Phuket. I believe this app will highlight what I can see and do among the many attractions in the short time I’ll have in these cities. I have an iPhone and iPad. Thank you!

I’ve always loved exploring new cities on my own. While the planning is fun, it doesn’t always provide me with the kind of local experience I crave for. This app will be a great help with my upcoming trip to Japan (Osaka, Kyoto, Hokkaido)! In any case, trying out a self-guided walking tour will be a cherished memory in itself!

Bergen – Norway
I plan to run the midnight sun marathon. While I’m there I may as well make the most of the visit and pack in as many sight and sounds and smells as I can. There’s no better way to do it than on foot. Android user

Ok, so I am going to New York City for the first time ever in June, and this app seems PERFECT for exploring!
Never having been a fan of guided tours or bus tours, I have always preferred to explore a new place on foot and at my own pace.
I would love to do a self-navigated exploration of the big apple using this app, as I am feeling a bit overwhelmed about where to start and what to see. This app will be a huge help in showing me all the ins-and-outs of nyc and hopefully some hidden gems tucked away that I would have otherwise missed 🙂
Crossing fingers!

Kyoto because Kyoto! [on Android]

Athens is hopefully my next stop for 2016. I really love the idea of having a travel app that doesn’t rely on an Internet connection!

As much fun as a walk around New Orleans would be, I’ll have to go with a closer option, Cape Town. Playing tourist there would be a good change of pace too. [iOS]

I NEED this app because I use only an iPod touch so most of my discovering is done by word-of-mouth, my eyes, and pre-trip research. The fact that this can be used offline is HUGE for me!

I want it for Rome, Italy, because I am going there in one month for my 30th birthday! I’ve always dreamed of going, but when I was younger I didn’t have the money or the time to go because I was working nonstop to pay my way through college. I am SO excited to finally be going on my dream trip with two college girlfriends after years of working and saving.

Please let me win as a birthday present! 30 is a HUGE milestone, after all! 😉

There are two things that make me a terrible, awful, useless traveler.

The first being that I refuse to buy a foreign SIM card when travelling and have been known to scour cities in the dead of night searching for their last working pay phone so I can call the backpackers to find out where the hell they are.

The second reason being that I can get lost anywhere. Seriously, I’ve even gotten lost in Bulawayo airport (Bulawayo airport is a tin shed). So, this app would 100% mean my days of taking wrong turns is over and would mean that I can gleefully continue to spend my hard earned money on trying local ice cream rather than buying SIM cards.

Please can I have it? I really need to go back to Bulawayo seeing I spent all my time there sleeping in a corner of the airport because I couldn’t find the exit.

Oh ya! iOS 🙂 If I’m too cheap to buy a SIM do you really think I’d own an iPhone?

I’ll be in Hong Kong for a 14 hour layover at the end of April and I am looking to explore for a few hours, likely without any cell service. This self-guided tour app would be amazing, since it can be used offline! [Android, unfortunately] Thank you!

I’ve spent my whole life travelling, but only recently on my own. I can’t wait to explore Marrakesh, Morocco – the next city and country on my list. Vastly different to Japan, but also extremely culture-centred; vibrant, majestic, and a foodie’s dream.

Barcelona, because we are going there this week :). For android.
And the Tour maps access would be absolutely fantastic for somebody with no orientation like me.

I’m gonna be in Paris for about a week in June! I heard there’s good wifi in the city but you can’t be sure so the offline mode will help me out tons! I’ll be alone a lot of the time so this app would definitely help me out!! I have no idea what to do in a big overwhelming place like Paris. Once I use this app in conjunction with Grindr I’m sure I’ll have a vacation I will never forget!

My husband and I are just a couple of clueless farm kids who need all the help we can get when it comes to travelling. We`re going to Taiwan in May so this app will definitely come in handy as we try to find the best places to visit. The fact that it can be used offline is a BIG plus for any traveller! I am an iPhone user.

I’ve always enjoyed exploring and these days I am always far from home.
With this app I would be able to see and experance some wonderful things.
As much as I like to travel I am not such a bit fan of getting lost. I feel this app would help me over come my fear of never finding my destination which is why I would love to have it.

Congratulations on two years of blogging!
I would like to go to Okinawa soon, and this sounds great for exploring Naha with my trusty Android without using up all my data!
